Common-sense tips: Weight loss

Weight loss is a goal of most of the population of North America.  Unfortunately, it seems the more we try to lose weight, the harder it is to shed those pounds.  Contained in this article are the FACTS that you need to know about losing weight.
Losing weight is never easy. There are no easy ways to do it, no shortcuts, and no fad diets that will make it happen for you. There have been fad diets around for hundreds of years, and there will be many more to come. The only way you will lose weight is if you commit to a lifestyle change that involves proper eating habbits and regular exercise.
Losing weight is about calories taken in versus calories used. Simply put, if you eat more than you use, you gain weight, if you use more than you eat, you lose weight. YOU ARE ALWAYS EITHER GAINING WEIGHT OR LOSING WEIGHT, MAKE THE CHOICE TO LOSE IT! Where it gets complicated is that all calories are not created equal. Calories from something fatty like chocolate are much worse than calories from something lean like Turkey. Choose a variety of foods that are lower in fat.
The problem is that most people who try to lose weight actually end up gaining weight for their efforts. This is because many foods that people eat to lose weight are actually worse than the foods that they used to eat. A good example of this is Subway. They claim that their food is healthy, and it is for the most part. The problem is that if you choose to have a healthy Turkey Sub, and ask for Mayo and Sub sauce, the sauces ALONE are 800 calories! That is a whole meal of calories in just those two sauces. Do yourself a huge favour and only ask for Mustard. Salads are another horrible lie! Many Ceasar salads have more calories and fat than a burger. Low fat Italien dressing is a good alternative, but if it isn't low fat, it could be just as bad.
The only way to lose weight is to combine increased physical activies with healthier eating. Many people think that if they join a gym and work out, that they will lose weight, but you have to combine both to get the results that you want. More muscle burns more calories, so when you go to the gym, do both cardio and weightlifting. This will help you burn calories as well as help develop the type of body that will keep the pounds off.
