The best foods for a bodybuilding diet

When it comes to building muscle mass on the body frame, it is equally important to eat the right foods as it is to ensure that you are exercising the correct muscle groups. Whether you want massive arms or a lean, wash-rack six pack abdominals, you simply need to eat the right foods. Protein is essential for building muscle on the body as it is protein that makes up the body in the first place. When you exercise, the muscles are broken down by resistance. The body then rebuilds them by using the protein that you take in, and that results in “gains” which in short, gives you bigger, stronger and more powerful muscles. Here is a guide to eating the
correct food for bodybuilding.
Protein heavy meat and fish
Meat and fish are both high in protein. Therefore, many bodybuilders would recommend lean meats such as turkey or chicken and fish such as tuna. Basically, any meat that is low in fat is good for the body when it comes to bodybuilding. For red meats such as beef and pork, you can still eat these to get your protein intake, as long as you first peel off the fat from the meat beforehand.
Vegetarian protein alternatives
If you do not like to eat meat for whatever reason, then there are many vegetarian alternatives to meat that you can eat. The Quorn brand of foods such as the Quorn roast, Quorn sausages and Quorn burgers are all high in protein. The same applies to the Linda McCartney brand of meat free products. Supermarkets often have their own home brand of meat free products too. Meat free alternatives to meat are generally made of high amounts of protein.
Eggs and dairy
For anyone looking to take in large amounts of protein, eggs are a simple must have on a bodybuilding and bulking diet. Eggs are almost completely protein and do not contain carbohydrates, making them perfect for a low carb diet for bodybuilders looking to get their energy solely from protein. Dairy products such as semi skimmed milk and cheese are also great sources of protein, but these usually contain fat also.
Peanuts and soya beans
Some of the most readily available and affordable protein is available in every day shops and supermarkets. Peanuts and soya beans are cheap but contain lots of protein making them a great choice for bodybuilders looking for a cheeky snack in between their meals. While peanuts do contain quite a bit of fat, many bodybuilders would argue that the high protein in the snack makes them a must-have. Soya beans are quite bland on their own, but for the
bodybuilder looking for a quick protein snack, they are essential.
Protein shakes
These days, one of the best protein sources out there is actually man made. Protein powder can be mixed with milk to create a protein shake. This is one of the best ways for bodybuilders to pack in huge amounts of protein with little to no effort at all. While protein powder can be expensive, it can be essential for the body builder looking to maximize their protein intake, and considering they come in a number of delicious flavours, they can be enjoyable, too!
Whether you are new to bodybuilding or you are a hardened veteran, it is important to constantly challenge your diet in order to ensure that you are taking in enough protein to achieve gains from your exercise so that your body and your muscles can grow. Whether you are a meat eater or a vegetarian, it is perfectly possible for anyone and everyone to eat protein and get good gains. The majority of great protein food is readily available to everyone such as eggs, dairy, nuts and meat but others, such as protein powder, you may have to go to specialist stores or order online. Remember, before making any changes to your diet or exercise plan, always speak to your GP or health expert for your own safety.
